Part 1: Brainstorm Project Ideas!
Now that you've learned about the impact of packaging and how to make bioplastics, you're going to come up with a ton of ideas about how you can create a future with less waste from single-use plastics.
Discussion Moment:
As a class, reflect on the impact of single-use plastics.
- What are some reasons we might want to create alternatives?
Individually, take 5 minutes to come up with as many bioplastic packaging ideas as you can. The more ideas, the better! Imagine the packaging you commonly receive (e.g., from shopping, shipping packages, food take-out containers, makeup/grooming products, etc.) and consider new and creative ways these products could be contained.
Example....Imagine if plastic yogurt pots were made of bio-plastics containing seeds, they could be used as plant pots and put in the ground after use, where they would biodegrade and sprout flowers! ...
Part 2: Share Out Ideas
In small groups, share out your ideas with one another. What ideas are you most excited to share? What ideas did you hear that resonated with you?
Next, share your favorite two ideas (or more!) with the class. Your teacher will write the ideas on the board - and connect similar ideas with a dotted line. Any idea shared to the board is available for selection!
Finally, select one of the ideas from the board that you want to work on as your final project for this challenge.
Deliverable
Let your teacher know which idea you selected.
Next, your teacher will form teams of 2 based on project interest. You'll work
