2.2 Designing for Participation

Prompt: Now that you've learned how to create soundscapes as a team, you will devise a method to encourage the audience to partake in this activity.

Part One: Visual Audience Prompter

Create a visual "audience prompter". This can refer to any type of tool or a device that gives the audience instructions on how to react or participate. The challenge is to not use any words or text. Everything must be conveyed through a simple graphic or an icon you've designed (make sure you can hold up your prompter to the screen).

Part Two: Sound Generators

Design a "sound making device" that anyone can make from their home. This means that it should be made of a material that is commonly found such as paper, cardboard, utensils, etc.) The sound should not be random but rather resemble a specific sound, similar to our rain and thunder activity. Take a look in the Tools tab for precedents of sound making prototypes.
